SCHEV Awards

Background

Each year, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia administers Outstanding Faculty Awards, which is the Commonwealth's highest honor for faculty at Virginia's public and private colleges and universities. These awards recognize superior accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service.

Each year, SCHEV invites and encourages all public and private degree-granting institutions in Virginia to participate in the OFA program. Each is asked to use a campus-wide committee to select its nominees. Nominations are submitted to SCHEV by each institution's president or chief academic officer.

The call for 2024 awards and VCU’s internal nomination process is now open.  For previous years, please see here.

Nomination Process

As mandated by SCHEV, VCU has a preliminary internal review process:

  • Nominations are submitted by chairs to Deans
  • Deans submit their nominations to Faculty Affairs who forwards all eligible nominations to the University Awards Committee.
  • Self nominations are also accepted.  Self nominations are submitted directly to Faculty Affairs.
  • All eligible University nominations are reviewed by the University Awards Committee.
  • Submission of nomination at the university level does not guarantee a nomination to SCHEV
  • Selected nominations are moved forward to SCHEV.
    • VCU is allowed 6 nominations plus one Rising Star Nomination

Detailed guidance for nominations is available in the VCU Faculty Affairs 2025 SCHEV Awards Guidance Document for Nominators.
