Ad Hoc Policy Committee
Periodic review and updates of faculty policies is required in every higher education institution. An ad hoc Faculty Policy Committee was created in fall 2024 to provide input and insights and develop recommendations on specific policies.
The policy revision process will follow the standard procedures as outlined in VCU’s Creating and Maintaining Policies and Procedures. Faculty input is essential to this process as it ensures that policies reflect faculty interests and consider the varied nature of faculty roles and responsibilities.
Committee members represent a diverse group of faculty across units, roles, responsibilities and includes representatives from the VCU Faculty Senate. Committee members have staggered terms to ensure that service work is rotated.
Beginning in 2024-2025, the committee reviewed three policies and submitted recommendations to the Provost. These three policies and faculty sanctions were: Academic Rights and Responsibilities; Commonwealth and University Professorships; and Parental Leave.
In 2025-2026, the committee’s review includes revisions to the VCU Code of Conduct and the Post-Tenure Review policy. Review and recommendations for additional policies requiring revision and updates are planned for fall 2026.
