Faculty Policy Committee
Periodic review and updates of faculty policies is required in every higher education institution. An ad hoc Faculty Policy Committee was created in fall 2024 to provide input, offer guidance and develop recommendations on specific policies. Starting in fall 2026, the committee is a standing committee with expanded membership.
The policy revision process will follow the standard procedures as outlined in VCU’s Creating and Maintaining Policies and Procedures. Faculty input is essential to this process as it ensures that policies reflect faculty interests and consider the varied nature of faculty roles and responsibilities.
Committee members represent a diverse group of faculty across units, roles, responsibilities and includes representatives from the VCU Faculty Senate. Committee members have staggered terms to ensure that service work is rotated.
Each year the committee reviews up to three policies and submits recommendations to the Provost.
The committee will review the Annual Assessment of Faculty Performance and Faculty Roles and Responsibilities policies. The committee may review additional policies or provide guidance as needed throughout the year.
Past review
The committee’s review included revisions to the VCU Code of Conduct and recommendations for the stand-alone Post-Tenure Review policy.
The committee reviewed Academic Rights and Responsibilities; Commonwealth and University Professorships; and provided recommendations for the Parental Leave policy in development.
